Times of the year

You know what's funny? Around two weeks ago I was pretty annoyed that Christmas stuff started appearing in stores, seeing as it's OCTOBER. But I'm actually starting to get an early move-on with my Christmas shopping this year. I've already gotten Barbara's present and Mum's present. In fact now I'm annoyed that the 'Christmas Spirit' hasn't arrived yet and that I'm the only one currently feeling Christmassy. ^_^;;

In Adelaide, the Christmas season starts in November when we have the Christmas Pageant. I've got to say, Christmas for me isn't Christmas DAY but the whole two months before it. I know some people can't stand it (the songs, the stress) but these two months are actually my favourite time of the year. No one has Uni to go to, end of year exams are done, it's always bright and warm and there are christmas decorations in the shops and christmas movies on TV. One of my favourite things to do is to go into places like David Jones, Target, Myer and Big W and look at all their christmas stuff (including el-cheapo CDs with Frank Sinatra covers of famous Christmas songs). I love putting up the tree and decorating it. I love putting the lights up on the house on a warm day and waiting until night to turn them on and giggle at the prettiness. I love getting packs and packs of Christmas cards and sending them out. I love doing the K-Mart Christmas Tree Appeal (where you buy a present for a mystery disadvantaged child) that I've been doing every year since I was sixteen. Just thinking about it is making me feel all wistful.

And incidentally, Halloween is coming up which in Australia is no big whoop as we don't celebrate it here (which kinda sucks as we grew up watching Halloween Specials on Nickelodeon and wondered why we could never go Trick-or-Treating). But I've been invited to a kinky Halloween party and have no idea what to wear. >_< I'm pretty sure I can't pull off a Regina George from Mean Girls.

Dress weather is back! Hoorah!! Which means it's the perfect time for knee-length skirts and maxi dresses. We should enjoy it while it lasts, because pretty soon it's gonna be bikini-under-singlet-and-miniskirt weather, and then oh-god-I-think-I'm-dying-can-I-please-go-to-work-naked weather.

summer, spring, dress weather, christmas
