As many of you know, my family is Brazillian. And as Brazillians, we do all our celebrating on Christmas Eve. We get together and have dinner, and then at midnight we open our presents. It was really fun this year. I have no idea what got into dad but his Scrooge-ness seems to have disappeared. He's probably the biggest Scrooge I know; even bigger than my sister. The day before yesterday he was all of a sudden going out and getting Christmas tablecloths, hats and even a little Santa coat for Tilzy. (Although don't worry it was just a cape thingy and she only wore it when it got colder) He actually seemed genuinely excited, and he let me put the lights up this year. I was worried because of the whole financial crisis and that. I love putting up the Christmas lights, and even though I only got to put them up on Christmas Eve this year, they look really pretty.
So last night they all came over and we all had dinner and played charades and all sorts of things. I taught Andre how to play Cheat (or Bullshit, as some call it) because I realised I could no longer remember how to play Uno. If anyone remembers, we've gotta play it sometime. I haven't played it for years. We got Andre to read out all the lame jokes from the bon-bons and we were all wearing hats, which is a huge deal because usually Dad would refuse to even go near the hats. Then at midnight we all exchanged our Secret Santa gifts. I got Andre this year, and I got him the three movie set of Spiderman 1, 2 and 3, which he loved. The real gift though was having everyone together without any awkwardness. This weird rift between mum and my aunt that's been haunting our family all year seems to have disappeared, and I'm so thankful for that. It kinda seems like things are looking up. I hope I don't jinx it by saying that.
Today has been a fantastic day. I got The IT Crowd seasons one and two on DVD, the Dark Knight on DVD, a pair of earrings and some perfume. In the morning I downloaded The Nostalgia Critic's latest review and then had breakfast. Since then, I've been lounging around watching the IT Crowd and Extras (which Barbara got) practically ALL DAY. And when I say All Day I literally mean ALL DAY. How much more awesome can you get? I literally put on a bunch of favourite episodes of each season of each show, and every now and then Barbara or mum would watch it with me and crack up laughing. I was supposed to work today, but Sarah took over my shift in exchange for a shift tomorrow, which is totally okay by me. I also watched Ever After on TV for the first time since I was like, eleven. And downloaded the latest IT Crowd ep off Youtube (which was bloody hillarious)and then I watched Extras again. :D It's weird because it's the most genuinely care-free day I've had in so long. And no one minded the fact that I did absolutely nothing today except lie around watching DVDs - d'ya know why? COS IT'S CHRISTMAS! :D
Between all this IT Crowd and Extras watching, I managed to write a nice to-do list which I shall begin to work on tomorrow. Then some goals I'd like to achieve next year. I'm feeling very rested and accomplished.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night. :)
