Fourty degrees today. Fourty fucking degrees. Like yesterday, and possibly tomorrow.
For those of you who don't know, we in Adelaide are experiencing the longest heat-wave in Australian history. The record was smashed days ago. We're getting reports of it still being around 38 degrees this coming Sunday.
Four or five days (spread out) in Summer is okay to handle I suppose, but day after day after day like this? IT'S JUST NOT RIGHT. Usually the heat-waves stop after mid February. IT'S FRIGGIN MID MARCH. I'm at uni. There aren't supposed to be heat-waves when I'm at uni.
I've already missed TWO DAYS of class and am having to listen to all of my lectures over the internet. I'm okay with sitting in air-conditioned classrooms, but having to walk to my bus stop in the searing heat, catch my sweaty hot bus full of hot sweaty people and then wander around campus from class to class in the post-apocalyptic heat - that's a completely different story. Sure my car has air-con, but it's not worth it to sit back inside the car after class and find that your skin is melting off when it touches the steering wheel and the gear stick, no matter how much cool air is blowing in your face. I refuse to even drive to the movies, or drive ANYWHERE really.
Then there's Tilzy, my doggie. We've been giving her alot of cool baths and trying to keep her in the rooms with the most air-conditioning. She's very old and I can't leave her here for five hours in the middle of this unholy heat-wave. Dad won't let us leave the air-con on without anyone in the house, in case something happpens like it blows up while we're gone. Or something like that. So Tilzy would be here all alone in the heat.
Aw, she's sleeping on the floor behind me. She always lies down on the floor on hot days. The floor is the coolest part, I suppose.
Anyway I really hope the weather people are wrong and that it ends soon. I'm not sure how much longer I can take it.
