日本に来た!

Just a small life update. I've been thinking about making a new blog specially for this year's experiences, but in any case, I finally arrived in Japan.

My flight was delayed by two hours, and I then had to wait a further three hours for the bus from Narita Airport to Tachikawa, but eventually, half asleep after around 24 hours of travelling, I was greeted by Shouta-san and taken to my dorms.

Chuo University's Tamadaira residence is close to Toyoda station and everyone here is really nice. It's a good mix of Japanese and exchange students. The rooms are pretty basic and there's a lot of housekeeping rules, but for the most part life is pretty relaxed (at least before classes begin).

Since arriving we've had an orientation at the university with a lot of paperwork, including the ordering of a Japanese mobile phone, and a visit to the Hino City hall to register our new address on our Residence Cards. Today I went to Hachioji and explored some of the shops near the station, and tomorrow there will be a barbeque for all the exchange students. We're also planning to go out to an izakaya next week as a celebration for just those in our dorms. I'm also looking forward to visiting Shinjuku where I hope to find the Closet Child store and pick up some second-hand music!
