Stuff Happens

So you might have noticed my LJ looking a little sparse now. What with all this ACTA stuff going on, and most of the EU having signed on, I'm looking back on these great years of sharing more liberally in the VK fandom. And to be honest, it genuinely worries me. Not so much as a personal thing, but about what could happen to the internet if it actually happens (which is looking more and more likely by the day). Because of the bad phrasing and extreme cases mentioned in the ACTA bill, you could be in trouble for so much as sharing a link to a site that has at some point hosted a clip from a film. Yeah, ridiculous. If we find ourselves governed like this, ISPs may be forced to monitor our every move and censorship will be in full force. Just look at what's happened to filesharing sites like MegaUpload since the introduction of SOPA in the US. MediaFire is working with the FBI now, for God's sake.

If you care about freedom of speech and action on the internet, the one place anyone can remain anonymous and express their views, sign up to one of the many petitions against ACTA. Or several of them. The more signatures the better, I guess. I'm not gonna give you a link or anything, but if you're bothered at all, go look it up. We don't have very long left as free web citizens.

On a more positive note, I had my final exam today. Now looking forward to searching for housing for next year, completing the amazing Dark Souls, and picking up my pre-ordered copy of Final Fantasy XIII-2 in the next week. Oh, and I'll probably be pre-ordering both the YFC album and GALEYD's first mini pretty soon.

random, rant, me, exam, dark souls
