Nerd News

The E3 conference has been underway for awhile now, and soon it's Nintendo's turn to unveil their new home console. This reminds me why I'm going for journalism; music or games, it'd be awesome to attend an event like this as part of the media and witness it first-hand. A few announcements are exciting me so far:

1) Assassin's Creed Revelations. About time we had a new AC game (I'm not saying Brotherhood wasn't, just that it was really more of AC2 than a "new" entry to the series). Besides even more streamlined gameplay, new locations and chance to play as both Ezio and Altair in the same game, the graphics have been souped up nicely. It's looking gorgeous already.

2) Final Fantasy XIII-2. I've made no attempts to hide the fact that what I'm looking forward to probably the most in the games industry is Final Fantasy Versus XIII, but seeing as that looks a way off, let's focus on the next instalment. I was never mega-excited about XIII-2, it looks a lot like more of the same as XIII but with a few new characters. That said, the trailer's interesting and it looks like a couple of additions should help keep it fresh. Shame it's running on the same engine as XIII though, it would look even more enticing with some slightly nicer visuals like ACR. That said, Squenix have done a good job pushing this one out so soon after XIII, so I can't complain.

3) Some Sony-branded epic display thing. Apparently Sony are releasing some 3D-style display which means that (with silly glasses, of course) two players can see the whole of the screen in 3D. That sounds impressive indeed, but the preliminary price tag is well out of standard range. Here's hoping it's developed more sooner so the prices will drop. Or hope something happens like the 3DS launch prices.

4) Nintendo's new console. I'll be watching the live stream at 5pm here in the UK for the big reveal, but already photos are floating around of controller designs similar to the old GCN / Wii Classic Controller, that now has a screen built in to the centre. I don't really like it to be honest, but obviously it's the console itself that matters. Seriously, I think Ninty need to step up the graphics engine and generally power the system up to PS3 level to compete with the current market.

Sorry for the long waffling, I'll add a cut later, honestly! ^^;
