When I began this investigation of the Foreign Service, I was eager to learn more about how our foreign affairs are handled, who handles them, and how the people have come about to doing what they do. More importantly, I was drawn to the possibility of finally understanding what my own father has been doing all of his life. The words “foreign service” and “diplomacy” always shot curiosity up my veins; curiosity that I was willing to explore. I am sad to say though, that after spending hours thinking and reading about it, the Foreign Service has turned out to be something far from the fascinating career I had imagined it to be. It is a world in which only those who fit a certain standard can survive. It is not even based on true diplomacy anymore; everything the foreign service officers do is learned and rehearsed for years before they could actually do any real negotiations. Its employees do not do what they find best for our country, they do what the name of their employment suggests-- they serve. Well, I have come to the conclusion that being a part of the foreign service is not anything that will help society. I will not serve.

this was the only part of my 14 page long paper that i enjoyed writing. :D
