Well I am certainly transitioning into another phase of the year like only students can do. My coop with Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada has come to a close. I have made amazing contacts and friends and I appreciate that they were able to show me that work environments outside of my control can be healthy. It was absolutely wonderful to see management treating employs like people instead of pieces of discarded dog shit in their yards.
My first of three Christmas' was at my mother in law's and her husband's place. They are really fun. I love and appreciate them. They are capitalist republicans to the max and their position on the role of women in the home is archaic at best, but we listen to each other openly and honestly and though we don't often agree, I think (hope) we both learn.
I am half-way through second christmas with Mitchell's father and brother, the two dogs and our guinea pig. We have had a really good time. As I learn more about how Christian tradition is so utterly pagan, I resent being in church much less. Tonight's Midnight (at 7pm) Mass was downright enjoyable and full of the small town talent that I know and love. They open their gifts on Christmas morning which is foreign to me, but I am adapting without tantrums :)
Both mom-in-law's and dad-in-law's places are in the boreal forest on the outskirts of small towns. I have been taking walks in the woods and learning as much about the flora and fauna that I can (Thank you Starhawk - you are such a woonderful influence on me). I picked Labrador tea. It is drying in the oven. While I was researching it further this evening, I found that I had improperly picked it. I harvested the leaves in a manner that is considered harmful and disrespectful to the plant. I feel remorse for this but I am glad I found out now and not after I had picked more than a handful.
Ooo, I'm very excited and refreshed to have stumbled upon a LJ Zine community. I have already come across some lovely people.
I'm feeling awfully chatty right now! I shall update more tomorrow perhaps...
PS-I have more ridiculously exciting (from my perspective) news so stay tuned!!!
