Seattle, Washington

Today is Where I Live Day, and I thought I would post this here as well as at wild_photos

I live in the city of Seattle, which sits on the eastern edge of the Puget Sound. We're surrounded by water (the Sound, Lakes Union and Washington) and we also have an active volcano to the south of us. This is my second year living here, and I absolutely love it.

Most of these pictures I took in the last couple of weeks, but a few were taken a few months ago. These first two were taken from Gasworks Park on the north end of Lake Union.

From here you can see St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral on Capitol Hill.

One of the most gorgeous viewpoints in the city is from Kerry Park on Queen Anne, which is north of downtown. If you're really lucky (especially this time of year) Mt. Rainier will make an appearance.

One of the big tourist attractions in Seattle, the Pike Place Market, all decked out for Christmas.

One of the many seafood stands.

I don't know who was more freaked out by this street performer: the little kid, or his dad.

This time of year the market isn't nearly so crowded with tourists, which makes it much easier for us locals to shop.

One of the ferries heading off into the sunset on Puget Sound.

This last week we actually got some snow! It didn't snow in the city at all last year, and this year I've been very homesick (I'm originally from Colorado). The snow definitely helped quite a bit to cure me. It only really stuck the farther up you got Queen Anne hill (and I'm sure the other hills in Seattle as well) but as soon as you got to the bottom and headed downtown, it all melted on contact.

The view again from Kerry Park.

This was taken downtown, from the bridge connecting the parking garage to the market, actually. The stadium with the white arches is Quest Field, where the Seahawks play, and the black arches is Safeco Field, where the Mariners play. There was a game going on when I snapped this pic, and I'm pretty sure the Seahawks won. Mt. Rainier is sort of in the middle.

Another sunset from Queen Anne. I live on the northwest side of the hill, which makes my rent much cheaper. If I lived on the south side, which has the lovely view of downtown, rent would skyrocket.

Nighttime from Kerry Park. The docks are right in the middle of this picture, and you can kind of see a ferry heading out from the pier on its way to Bremerton or Bainbridge Island.

So that's where I live. Cross posted at wild_photos
