I work for the Middleburg Humane Foundation in rural northern Virginia. We're a small, non-profit farm shelter specializing in the rescue and rehabilitation of abused, neglected and at-risk animals. All of our funding comes from private donors and businesses -- we get nothing in the way of state or county funding.
We operate out of a restored turn-of-the-century farmhouse on about 4.5 acres. Our president and founder, Hilleary Bogley, runs the shelter and is also a court-appointed Humane Investigator for Fauquier and Culpeper Counties. All of our animals come from cases of abuse or neglect, most of which are investigated by Hilleary and local animal control officers. We're a very small farm shelter but we have so many animals right now we're trying to find homes for -- we're at full capacity and these animals have a lot of medical and behavioral needs that require not only a lot of love and attention but also funding.
