My student loan provider apparently now distributes their tax forms online through a third party's website. I have several problems with this.
(1) The e-mail didn't come from my student loan vendor. It came from the third party, which claimed to be contacting me on behalf of my student loan vendor, which is what phishing scammers do.
(2) The third party's website did not have a "certified by" logo from any of the services that verify that a given website is not a phishing scam.
(3) As the paperwork in question was a federal document, retrieving it required my full name and part of my SSN, which is what phishing scammers seek.
(4) The phone number provided in the e-mail did not connect me to my student loan vendor, but rather to the third party, which is how phishing scammers assuage suspicious people.
THAT'S JUST FREAKING STUPID!
