I liked the beginning of the book. It was alot different from what I expected. I haven't really read alot of books about war. What I have read about war has been more statistics than personally info and emotional stuff. I think that it was a good way to start off the book by listing object various soldiers carried because it gives you an insight to the character right away. Like how the one solider with the letter was imaginative and hopeful and the other with the tranquilizers was fearful. This way your attached to the characters more and its not just names. you know a little about what there feeling and in some cases a little about their history and life back home.
