Heaven on earth...they call it Basin Street
mmm, civic jazz plays tomorrow at 7 and tickets are practically sold out. I really wish I had actually gone to the audition for it instead of just taking 4th chair in the civic jazz band (there's an orchestra and a band, the band being the lower of the two, and I'm the last trumpet in the band). I was listening to the orchestra rehearsal and the music they're playing is sooooo amazingly awesome!!! But now I'm stuck playing 'April in Paris' (like not even half as hard as DLS jazz band version) and 'Broadway' and a few other songs. I have a few solos, but they're all written in and really easy and it's not fun. Except for 'Harlem Airshaft', it just so happens that on my part there's a trumpet solo throughout most of the song and it goes up to high F above the staff on more than one occasion (and for those of you who didn't know or weren't sure, that's a decent bit above my playable range) and it's a bit fast. Hell I didn't think we were going to be playing that song, we only rehearsed it like twice and it's the hardest one! Otherwise I would have prepared for it better and wouldn't be complaining so much anout it right now. Oh yeah, and we just got a new song to play today, the day before the concert, called 'C Jam Blues'. I've heard the song before and it's not bad, but of course our version sucks.
I really need to practice more
For some reason at times I can barely hit notes that are normally easy for me to play, maybe I need to work on compression some more? Time to start doing the pencil exercise again. you guys have no idea what I'm talking about do you? hehe
I really need to do my leaves pictures for photo soon, like before friday. anyone want to help me? i.e. let me take pictures of them?
oh crap, I jsut realized that I'm supposed to teach little kids tomorrow, but I can't because i have to leave my house at like 4 for civic tomorrow. eh, I only have one kid's number anyway, oh well I'll just call the one kid's parents during the day tomorrow and have someone tell the other kid what happened.
who wants to go with me to regina's play this weekend?
