Good news! You may remember me mentioning a while back how my old job at ATB was split into two separate teams at the beginning of the year: the HR side and the payroll side. Well, a temporary position opened up with the HR team (People Operations), and I am the successful candidate! :D I felt pretty confident I'd get it. Charleen, my old boss (who currently leads this team), forwarded me the job posting once it was available, then asked if I'd be willing to do a phone interview while I was on vacation. I took the phone interview, then had a second interview with another leader of the team, and received the offer shortly after.
My excitement is reserved and tentative, but it's hard to keep it contained. It's a six-month position at the moment, which means I may have to return to my current role with Payroll if they do not get the approval to make the position permanent by then (which they are trying to do). My current leaders are meeting with Charleen tomorrow to discuss the details of my transfer before I may announce it officially. Like everything else I apparently do, this will create more tension and animosity with the Payroll team. It's for that reason that I'm so ecstatic to finally have an out, though!
I know at least one other team member also applied for the position: Jenn. However, she admitted to me that she wasn't 100% sure about wanting it, and she has an upcoming interview with the Humane Society, which she is much more excited about, so I think everything will work out for the best for both of us. Fingers crossed she gets the other job. I know just how much she'll love working with dogs. Also, I won't lie: I'd love to see my current leaders sweat. They have been assholes to us for far too long.
I don't have a transfer date set yet, but I can't wait. I won't have to work crazy hours; I'll have a much more trusting boss; I know the team dynamic will be much friendlier and laid back; AND I'll be able to work from home!!! I don't think I'll want to work from home full-time, and that probably won't be the case, anyway. I think the team comes into the office at least 1-2 times a week. I. can't. wait. Picturing myself working in my home office with my own coffee, snacks, music, and cats nearby, and being able to hang out in the living room or on the patio for a bit if I want, is going to make the next few weeks bearable. Wheeeee!
In other news: Ben and I went to the Calgary Folk Fest, then to Seattle a few days later. Ben was going to Seattle for a Dota tournament, and I was just tagging along. I did a lot of solo sight seeing, which I enjoyed, and missed doing, really. I walked around at my own pace, hung out in coffee shops, and read a lot. :) One of my highlights was my trip to the Experience Music Project! I saw the permanent exhibits (Nirvana and Hendrix), along with exhibits on the history of video games, Star Wars costumes, and Chuck Jones, the Looney Tunes art director. I had LOTS of fun there, and bought myself a few nerdy souvenirs! Good times!
The day I flew back from Seattle, I had my phone interview, then I headed down to Gallagher Park for day one of the Edmonton Folk Fest. This year was my first year as a Shift Leader. I found it very enjoyable and rewarding. I'm lucky to have such a fun, dedicated, amazing crew. :) My dad and Susan also volunteered this year, so it was hanging out with them at dinners and the after-parties! Dad lucked out with a spot on a main stage volunteer crew, so he had special privileges and a backstage pass!
That's about it for now! Hope everyone's enjoying their summer!!
