10 o'clock and I'm done for the day

Okay, so I finally have some time to update you all on the work front! I've been meaning to do so for weeks. I believe I already mentioned that Karen approached me in regards to the situation with Lyn, and how to fix it. Well, at the beginning of the month, I was told that I would be transferring to the Suncor MVU project, under Tracey (spaceytracey). I officially moved yesterday, and I love it! OHMIGOD do I ever love it! Not just because there's no Lyn (which was the original appeal), but there are so many positive things to this transfer! First, I'm in a new building, and it's gorgeous! And I have a window seat! My cubicle buddy is my friend (and off-again, on-again crush, ha) Cory, who also transferred to Suncor from Petro! The people on my team are all very nice, and Tracey is so far a great lead to work for. :D (Do I score brownie points for praising you on my LJ, Tracey? hehe) Seriously though, she is. She's very smart, she knows her job, and she's great at understanding workers, what experience they have, and how to train people effectively and positively. I've been walking around with a shit-eating grin on my face ever since last week! Ha! I came in yesterday and people were like, "What the hell are you so happy about? It's Monday!" And all I could say stupidly was, "I know! I'm so happy!" hahaha

Work's a bit slow for now, but it's nice to ease into the new procedures before it picks up. Ack, blinded! That's the one downfall of a window seat -- I have to close the blinds for a few hours when the sun bounces off the cars and blinds me. *goes to close the blinds* They will be open again after lunch. :D Cory has a whackload of plants left at his old cubicle, and he said I could borrow one. He doesn't want to be the only ones with plants lol; he's got a little ecosystem going on there.

I was very flattered and touched from all the response I've heard from people on Petro, including people on site whom I've never even met. So many people wished me all the best, and said it wouldn't be the same without me. Ray and Marilyn from Procurement even gave me hugs. :) I was very happy to say goodbye to Marilyn; her common-law partner died of a heart attack right after the new year, and I felt so bad for her. I didn't know how to approach her, and thought it would be best to give her some space because everyone was swarming to her desk to show their sympathy. When I was about to walk out the door for the last time on Friday, she overheard I was leaving and called out to me, her eyes still slightly wet from the recent events. Marilyn said she will miss looking at my neat hair and glasses every morning. *blush* Aww... it was a bittersweet end. In a way, I felt sad that my sole reason for wanting to leave was because of one person, but I also believe that good can come from any situation, and moving and learning new things will definitely be a good experience for me.

I also find it slightly ironic that I now work right next to the University of Alberta's B.A.R.D. (Book And Record Depository) For three years, whenever I was going research, the elusive B.A.R.D. would appear in my search, and I always refused to go there, having absolutely no familiarity with this area of town. I figured it would be some worthless two-hour trek to get here, lol. Now I see it every day. The doors are locked and you have to buzz to get in, but I'm thinking of spending some of my lunch hours looking around if I can. :D I'm such a nerd. Yesterday I went for a walk during lunch, and I found a staircase leading up to the roof of the B.A.R.D., so I went up there for a while.

So there's my work update. :) Much more positive than recent updates, hey? I'm hoping this change will give me less grey hair -- I found two more on the weekend! Ack!

Ski trip this weekend! Woo! Does anyone have ski pants and/or a winter jacket I could borrow that might fit me? I need to go shopping but I don't want to spend too much money if I don't have to. If I have to, I don't mind, because ski pants are good to have, and it'd be nice to have a new jacket.

I keep forgetting that Sandria and a few of her friends are going to be on the trip. We haven't been in touch for a while. I guess we'll see each other on Friday, if I don't hear from her this week. They're driving from Fort McMurray but I need to find out where she wants to park her car as we're taking a bus to Golden, B.C.

You know what I miss? Cruising around in high school and ordering a timbit through the Timmy's drive-thru. Yes, that is singular. We would always order one timbit and share it. Ahh, memories.

Well, I've wasted enough time for now. Time to bug Cory for a bit, now that he's done talking to someone on his team. :þ Tracey's gone to a meeting until 2pm, so maybe I'll ask Susann if she has anything she needs me to do.

work, ski trip, friends, school
