Linguistics Nerdery

Tonight I discovered that Macalester has a subscription to historic New York Times. This means I can search and download any New York Times article since 1851 for free. I am currently reading my way through articles on Irish Gaelic from 1886 to the present. That's coverage from 30 years before Irish independence, right on through it (quite a few from the 20's on that), and every so often again through the decades with several in the last 20 years.

Unfortunately, I still can't seem to find any information more scholarly than Wikipedia that gives complete syntactic information on the language, though I did order through Interlibrary Loan a couple of journal articles that look moderately promising, if they arrive in time for me to use them.

Also, check out Omniglot. May turn out to be even more fun than Ethnologue. Haven't looked too deeply into Euromosaic yet, but that, too, looks intriguing.

I am definitely in the right major.
