Today would have been the first day of Gallifrey One 32 "Thirty-Second to Midnight", but it was postponed until next year for obvious reasons. It's disappointing, of course, that we aren't getting to see our good friends and geek out about Doctor Who for a whole weekend. That convention is something we look forward to the whole year.

Gally, unlike most other conventions, is non-profit, so all of their workers are unpaid volunteers and the entire con is run on the money they receive from ticket sales. They don't have a permanent staff or the infrastructure needed to set up an online presence to be able to hold an online con.
Gally's also a lot smaller and more intimate than general cons, and there are opportunities to get to talk to the celebs informally. First time I was there, I sat and chatted with Simon Guerrier (one of the Big Finish writers) for fifteen minutes about writing for DW, and last time, I chatted with Sarah Sutton about her artwork. I also talked to Bruce Boxleitner, when they had the Babylon 5 cast one year, for a couple of minutes - told him how he was my first crush, back when Tron came out. :)
