1. It's cold in here. I mean, really cold. Both my bedroom and bonus room sit directly above the garage. Garages have no heating, and apparently neither do I. (The contractor of the house didn't really think out the climate control part of the whole house building thing.) In fact, if I were to leave a glass of water in my bonus room over night, we might see some ice happening. No exaggeration. I'm wearing a t-shirt, a button-up, and a sweater. I still need a blanket for comfort! Anyone remember that really gross part in Empire Strikes Back with Han, Luke, and an unfortunate beast of burden? That used to gross me out, but now I totally get it.
2. One day I'm going to record a disc of Scarlatti, Weiss, Couperin, and De Visee. I'm going to call it "Baroquen Dreams."
3. I stole that last one from the same guy that told me the one phrase I needed to know to be a guitarist. "Would you like fries with that.
One more: What do you call a guitarist without a girlfriend? Homeless.
4. So, we can all agree I'm a big nerd, right? Well, I found this music video thing on YouTube of Schubert's Winterreise. Not just "Der Lindenbaum" or "Gute Nacht." The whole song cycle. I was all at once super stoked and disappointed. In my opinion, there's not a whole lot you can do with a song cycle to make an appealing music video. And Ian Bostridge was just king of sitting in dark room singing and looking pissed, which is justified considering that the poet's narrator just found out his woman was a'cheatin. (The "a'" before cheating and the removal of the "g" makes it funny, in case you weren't hip on comical punctuation.) But my thought is that if you're going to try it, follow the story of the poetry and maybe give the visuals a story too. But of course, I don't know how much money was involved either, so perhaps the sparse visual was due to budgetary constraints. Great performances though.
And now that I think of it, well performed Schubert really doesn't need a whole lot to make it more interesting. Something that a majority of modern rock and pop is missing. Take that MTV!
5. I've been tumblr stalking you, and you're not nearly as interesting as I am.
6. I shaved for the first time in at least a year and a half. No, the beard/goatee not gone. Still there. But I actually took razor to face instead of taking the easy way out and using the shortest setting on the clippers. The result: A cleaner look to my already ruggedly handsome face. However, I'm remembering exactly why I started using the clippers to begin with. I mean, you have to lather up, then shave, then moisturize because by that time your face REALLY FREAKIN' HURTS! But I guess I'll keep up with it. You know, for the ladies' sake.
