"Brad Pitt meanwhile bought the rights to remake the "Infernal Affairs" trilogy by Hong Kong directors Andrew Lau and Alan Mak. Martin Scorcese is slated to direct the remake, called "The Departed", with Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio taking the roles played by Andy Lau and Tony Leung in the original police and gangster thriller, which will be transplanted to Boston.
Tsi said Hollywood, suffering from a dearth of original ideas, had been rushing to buy the rights to remake Asian movies since the successful adaptation of Japanese horror flick "The Ring" two years ago.
He said action and horror were the two main genres inspiring interest overseas, but 2004's successful remake of Japanese director Masayuki Suo's 90s romantic comedy "Shall We Dance" -- starring Richard Gere and Jennifer Lopez -- showed Asia was breaking through in other genres."
So, run out of original ideas, don't waste time being creative, just copy international ones.
