Zara sat on the couch, calmly stuffing her face full of chocolates. Sure they’d been half hidden the back of the closet, were obviously expensive, and not necessarily meant for her…. but she was desperate, damn it.
Ami walked through the front door at that moment, Zara could hear her set down a few grocery bags and change into her house slippers. Zara continued eating chocolates as Ami moved into the kitchen, unloading groceries.
After a few moments Ami stepped into the living room, a small smile on her face when she realized that Zara was home already. However the smile turned into a small frown when she saw the blonde woman had already devoured half the box of chocolates.
“Zara,” she sighed. “Those were for Mamoru.”
“He won’t mind, there weren’t nearly enough dark ones to satisfy him.” She popped one into her mouth, her cheek bulging slightly.
“Is there any particular reason you’re eating an entire box of chocolates by yourself?”
“I’m having an identity crisis!” Zara cried before eating another chocolate. She dropped the box onto her lap, the few chocolates left rattling against each other while the empty papers fluttered out, spreading across Zara’s lap and the couch. Running her free hand through her curly hair, she looked up at Ami with sad green eyes. “I needed sweets,” she mumbled sadly.
“Oh?” Ami tilted her head, eyebrows furrowed.
“Well, I mean this baby shower!” Zara looked away from Ami, her eyes staring at the coffee table, but unfocused. “I know it’s a mixed group and everything, because it’s for both parents. It’s just you know eventually the line will be drawn and it will be guys against girls. So do I go with Mamoru, my prince, as one of the shitennou OR”-- she threw up her hands, fingers spread wide--”do I stay with the females since I am one?”
Ami blinked at Zara, not really sure what to say. Zara finally looked back up at Ami and narrowed her eyes. “Don’t laugh at me!” she whined.
“I’m not laughing!” Ami defended.
“Your lips twitched! I saw it!” Zara pointed an accusing finger at Ami. “This is a serious situation!”
“How do you even know it will end up divided?” Ami sat on the edge of the couch, trying not to sign when the papers from the chocolate box floated up at the movement and scattered across the floor.
“It will! You know it will! Nix and Jin will get bored with the entire thing and make some excuse to run away somewhere in the house, Mamoru will follow them to be a good host and Kadin will follow Mamoru….because he’s Kadin! So where does that leave me?” Zara spoke rapidly, her hands waving wildly in the air.
“That leaves you wherever you feel most comfortable. If you want to drink beer with the boys, that’s fine. If you want to stay while Usagi squeals over baby clothes, that’s fine too.”
“What if I’m comfortable both places?” Zara pouted.
“Then you can flit back and forth like the social butterfly you are.” Ami smiled softly.
“Don’t tease me,” Zara mumbled, crossing her arms as she sank deeper into the couch.
“Mm, I thought you like it when I teased you?” Ami trailed one hand down the other woman’s arm.
Zara shivered slightly, but her eyes were narrowed when she looked at Ami, “you don’t play fair.”
“I learned from you, dear.” Ami leaned forward and kissed Zara’s cheek before rising from the couch, heading toward the kitchen to make dinner. “It will be alright, stop worrying about the shower. Just remember to have fun.”
“I’ll show you fun!” Zara lept over the back of the couch and grabbed Ami around the waist, pulling the other woman toward the bedroom.
Lol. I love how Zara points out that it didn't have enough dark chocolate for Mamoru, anyway, so it's okay that she's eating it instead.
"Kadin will follow Mamoru….because he’s Kadin!" So true!
I like how even though this is a fluff piece, the conflict of "Do I hang out with the guys or the girls when things break out that way?" could definitely be a pervasive part of Zara's life.
Zara -- like any good Zoisite -- has no shame, and she's a bit honey badger when it comes to chocolates. And Ami. heee! I've always found the whole idea interesting for a female Zoisite, being torn between the two dynamics. In the end though, she loves her bros. ;)
Me too! And I'm girly, damn it. But growing up the cousins my age were boys, while the girls were older. So did I go play with the boys or try to be mature around the girls? I usually ended up with the boys though. LOL!
Zara sat on the couch, calmly stuffing her face full of chocolates. Sure they’d been half hidden the back of the closet, were obviously expensive, and not necessarily meant for her…. but she was desperate, damn it. Oh bless her little heart, this is adorable. But yes, of course. Chocolate is the best way (when Ami's not around) to solve an identity crisis.
