Should've thought to post this sooner...

The very first Seramyu (Sailor Moon musical), "Gaiden Dark Kingdom Fukketsu Hen" is now available for download on BitTorrent.  This relates to the Shitennou, because obviously, the Dark Kingdom are in it.  The torrent can be found here (it's no longer on the first page; I found it on the second, or do a search for Gaiden).

To those who have never seen any Myu before, be warned that, being the first one and all, Gaiden is extremely unpolished compared to later shows.  In other words, don't expect this to be Shakespeare.  The costumes are giant and awkward, the wigs look like yarn, there's very little concept of when the timing is appropriate for a song, the acting is overdone, and the dance choreography is crap.  Now I definitely made you want to see it, didn't I?

But there are some good points, too.  You can definitely see the potential going on here.  Some of the songs went on to be long-standing favorites, including La Soldier, Sailor War, and Yami Koso Utsukushii (the Dark Kingdom song, which is available for download on my site, if you go easy on the bandwidth).  ANZA, the actress who was the first and longest running Usagi, was already breaking into her roll (though it's hard to believe that this cute childish girl goes on to be the most badass of the Usagis).  And I was somewhat impressed with the difficult fight choreography they pulled off in places.

And then there's my favorite reason: Kunzite.  The other three aren't especially noteworthy in this Myu, and sadly, none of them get much development (look into "Starlights ~ Ryuusei Densetsu" for that).  But Kunzite stands out, if for no other reason than the fact that he's played by Mochizuki Yuuta.  Myu fans will likely recognize this name, as Yuuta was one of the longest-standing actors to play Mamoru.  Kunzite was his starting roll, and oh, did he make a great Kunzite.  It's a shame the writers didn't give him more development, because he could have really done a lot with him (Yuuta is especially good with bad guys; he made for one mighty sexy vampire in the Dracul arc).  Looks-wise, he's perfect--tall, muscular, and broadly built.  And then on top of that, he's a great actor, terribly athletic, and dances better than most of the cast (see, Nephrite, you move ON the beat).  But enough drooling on the Yuuta.

So, yes.  See it for fun.  See it to point and laugh at the freaky costumes.  I'll be around to seed it if anyone needs me to; just let me know.

Just because I felt like it.

The whole cast.  Yes, that is Luna and Artemis on either end.  Yes, they are full-grown adults in giant kitty suits.  They haunt me at night.  The three women in silver in the second row are the DD Girls/youma.  The fourth woman also plays a DD Girl, as well as Haruna-sensei.  Notice how Kunzite is the only one playing with his hair, the femme.

Kunzite's Super Secret Disguise, Saito Kun.  Note the lack of wig and costume; he really went all-out with the whole disguise concept.  Saito Kun is an often-used identity of his in the Myu, and yet it seems that every time he does use it, he still needs to explain to us why Saito Kun is actually Kunzite in reverse.

During "Seikyou no Couple Gundan".  Actually a surprisingly cute and well-done dance sequence, I think.

This guy is great, but he seems disturbingly young to me.  I keep thinking that maybe it's actually Shingo posing as Tuxedo Kamen.  Also, I fear that ANZA's overalls will consume her.

Silver Millennium Kunzite's shoulder pads of doom.  PGSM has nothing on these guys.

Beware of flying Nephrites.

And possessed Christmas tree!Beryl.  "I'll get you, my pretty!"

This can only end in tragedy.

Okay, rambled enough.  Probably scared a few, too.  Enjoy (or not)!

media, myu
