Wow. The United States v. Czech Republic is a shining example of why I'm not a United States fan. Call me unpatriotic, but that's just the way I feel. The play with absolutely no heart. Bunch of showboats, they are. They need to come together as a team and stop making fools of themselves at international tournaments. I mean, they've got the longest serving national manager in the world, Bruce Arena. They find consistency in a coach but not in play. Shape up, boys. Italy is going to wipe the floor with you.
That is not to say that the Czech Republic didn't play an inspired game. They did play brilliantly. Coupled with American ineptitude made for a very much deserved win for them. /golfclap. Plus they have another Chelsea player, Petr Cech (GK). So that's cool.
Japan v. Australia. Well done, Aussies. I mean, Japan is a favorite of mine for obvious reasons, but wow did they break down. Australia became the first team to score three goals in a World Cup regulation match after being held scoreless for the first 80 minutes. Have to give them props there. But I do love Japan, who only introduced the J-league not 13 years ago. They've come a long way. AND Nakamura, who scored their one and only goal against Australia, plays for Celtic in Scotland. I'm a huge Celtic fan. Celtic and Chelsea are my two teams. I couldn't decide between the two so I have equal memorabilia for both. Plus they're two different countries so I don't really have to divide allegiance. I got to see a Celtic v. Rangers game last year. That's HUGE. Celtic are the Catholic team in Scotland and Rangers are the Protestant team, so tensions always run high whenever they play. Great game to be at.
South Korea v. Togo was a quality game. I have a soft spot for the Asian countries so I was happy to see South Korea win. Togo played a man down for a red card in the 53rd minute and there was a horribly graphic injury early in the second half. Ugh, I saw the bone stick out....gross. Someone tell me I was imagining things. Both the goals, however, were brilliant. First Chun-soo Lee's free kick and then the top-of-the-box-perfect-placement shot by Jung-hwan Ahn. First South Korean World Cup win in Europe. Dick's made history so well done there. They've got some history to fight so I'm excited to see their next game against France.
