Title: "If I promised you an ocean..."
Fandom: Bleach
Pairing: Shunsui/Ukitake
Comment: It is a wonder what you will learn from the muses. I just was told today that my Ukitake muse did not like the ocean. This wasn't the first time that he had hinted to me of such
things but this time he stated it outright, without any qualms and he even expounded upon it a little bit. And hence this little fic-bit was written by him.. I take no credit for what the muse writes. I also did not beta it, so that in keeping, please don't flay me for it. I am merely lazy. *heh's* The song inspiration for this is "Oceans" by The Tea Party even though the lyric content and the fic content are very different.
Crashing waves, the sound always woke him up from his sleep, pulling at his mind in little waves and pieces that he could not quite place. Slipping from their shared bed and reaching for the robe that his lover would no doubt insist that he put on in order to protect his fragile help, he would steal out from the little retreat that they shared of their own. Ukitake came to this place because his lover adored the sea, but Ukitake had reservations about it. He looked out at it and he felt blank and somewhat incomplete, and yet when he stared out at it by himself, he knew it was a symbol of something that he had lost. The sand was safe, he liked the sand and the way that it squished through his bare feet. He especially liked the sands when they were warm and sun baked, but it would take alot of coaxing for him to leave the sands of the beach and touch feet to the waters.
Often he told Shunsui that he would watch him walk in the waves, splash around. He could watch from a safe distance on the shore while his beloved took delight in the waves of the sea, like a child who did not know the dangers of such a place. And certainly for Shunsui the waves did not pose any dangers for the waves adored him and played with him in wild abandon.
When Shunsui tried to beckon him out, he merely held up a hand and chuckled, giving the excuse that he was like a rock in waters. That he would sink most assuredly. He knew that wasn't wholly the truth, but that he could not swim. It was the concept of holding breath under water, of trying to trust himself and his already fragile body. That very trust was a key point in the inherent desire for him to sustain breath. Safer that he was out on the sands and on steady ground where the only threat poised was the occasional faulty breath that caused crimson tainted phelgm to rise up.
The sea was a beautiful thing, even Ukitake had to logically admit it. And even more beautiful to his eyes was Shunsui acting like a child amid waves swirling around his feet and looking as if the very place was natural for him to be. For that reason alone Ukitake could bear the sea, the sea was a catalyst for putting that smile on his beloved's face, and for that Ukitake could repress the feelings that rose unbidden whenever he looked upon waves.
Tonight they were dark and rolling, like a loss of hope. He went to lean on the railing of the patio where they were staying and looked out upon them. Not because he wanted to, but because they called to him. He wanted to understand them, he wanted to enjoy them because they were something that his twin star took pleasure in. But all he could see was despair etched on the inky black surfaces. Still he kept trying to understand something that was just beyond his reach to know and likened it to a siren's song that rose, endlessly tempting him with something dark.
A shuffle that he didn't notice and arms wrapping themselves around his waist and he was drawn back against an expansive and protective chest, kisses pressed against his neck and shoulders assured him that the waves would never ever pull him out of the embrace that he had offered to him whenever he wanted it. So while he was no closer to understanding, or even accepting.. he knew that sacrifices made for his love was a pleasure and that he would bear even a thousand more trips to the sea if it made his Shu-koi happy.
