Chapter one

An eye for an eye

The dark haired boy lowered himself onto both of his knee’s, palms pressed onto the floor in front of him as he slowly lowered his head down, his forehead touching the smooth polished floors of the King’s discussing room, gold walls enrapturing everyone standing inside of the beautiful room.

“Please, spare my home.” The boy spoke lowly, keeping his forehead pressed to the ground, his body crouched over. The guards standing beside the King gave the boy an eyeful; disgusted with his hopeless efforts.

The King had long ago promised the people to destroy the Monk lands. No one had protested, not even the Monks themselves, it is against their moral.

Yet - begging is not.

“Raise your head boy.” He boomed, placing his scepter onto the dull gold coloured flooring, he took a step down, one after the other, his long white robe with gold inscriptions of what the elders had been saying for generations sweeping across the clean floors of his palace. He paused, standing in front of the black haired teen that had raised his head, hands on his knees, eyes staring bashfully at the King of the land. “What are you here for? State your purpose clearly.”

“Your robe” the teen said otherwise looking to symbols painted along the side of the Kings hip. “It says home is what generations have been seeing, home is not fancy things. I believe King, you are making a mistake.”

The tall King furrowed his eyebrows, a howl of outrage leaving some of the guards lips as they banged their weapons against the floor. Slowly the King rose his hand; silencing his subjects. “Quiet!” He boomed, the room going silent, his eyes never leaving the teens. “Your name boy?”

“Huang Zi Tao, the Monks call me Tao.” He spoke strongly, fingers digging into his folded knees.

“I am King Kris,” the man introduced formally, “I’ve been running EXO-M for merely 2 months, I am still new to the throne, so please tell me how expanding our lands and making more room for military and people is a mistake?”

“The Gods are upset, if you take their lands you will be cursed, King.” Tao said stoically, lowering his face. “I have nothing against you, King.” He added, “it is not in my teachings to be angry, I am merely skeptical that this is for the best.”

“And why has only you spoken up against my doings? No other Monk has.” Kris said loudly, leaning forward onto one knee, placing his face threateningly near Tao’s.

Tao kept his eyes unwaveringly on the king - black eyes set firmly; they know their purpose.

“It wasn’t in any of their destiny’s to speak against it, my Master told me yesterday and said that the golden spider had webbed my future, and I am to go to your palace as a sacrifice to keep the lands untouched.”

Kris narrowed his eyes, baffled with the teen’s revelation. “Sacrifice as what?” he’s been taught for years about the Monk’s teachings, how precise destiny and fate is in their vocabulary, but he cannot believe a young teen would offer himself up as a sacrifice because a spider said so.

“I will sacrifice my body and soul to you,” Tao lowered his head, bowing down once again for his forehead to touch the floor, “I will become your mate.” He whispered lowly.

A booming laughter erupted from everyone in the hall - Kris once again rose a hand to silence them. “And what makes you think I’d take you as a wife, Tao?”

The teen slowly looked up, eyes determined as he spoke unwaveringly. “Because you are new, you do not have knowledge on anything outside of the palace, if the King is to marry a boy raised in the promised lands he’d be well reflected on in the future; your people would trust you much more.”

He spoke the truth, bluntly and rudely. Yet Kris knows his place even as the King, he knows the teen in front of him named Tao speaks the truth. The Monks and people living in the mountains are well looked upon, they are worshipped. That is why no one spoke against the destroying of the land, because the Monks had not.

“Can you bare children Tao?” Kris asked slowly, thinking about the offer. He would go down in history if he married a mountain child. The people of the promised lands are known for not going outside of their lands, most do not marry either. They take in orphans; not create their own children.

“If it is in my destiny, I will do so.” Tao spoke lowly, his eyes gazing downwards for once.

Kris rose, standing proudly over the teen. “Take me to this golden spider, I do not agree to this if I am unsure you will bare me children, Kings are not allowed to adopt like your people.” He banged his golden scepter into the ground, the silver snake wrapped around it like a vine showing proudly, small golden and black spiders crawling around it.

Tao seemed enchanted by the scepter - eyes glossing over its beauty.

“What?” Kris demanded roughly as guards slowly pooled closer to the King, catching onto the teens gaze on his precious scepter.

“Your scepter, it protects the Kings, it always has, right?”

Kris nodded, “it has followed my father and his father’s before, it has seen the death of each King.”

“And it will see yours.” Tao's eyes found Kris’ again, eyes set determinedly.

The world paused, Kris is not naive even though most would suspect otherwise. Kris has seen enough of hatred and grief in his life to know that the brief flicker in Tao's eyes are not one of admiration or an unspoken threat. It is a promise, a promise that Tao will see to be by his side like the scepter he holds, that the both of them will see him die.

Even if it destroy's his morals and upsets the balance of his life; Kris see's the secret hate beneath the calm collected eyes.

“We may leave now” a guard interrupted bowing to the King, before looking grossly at the teen still crouched onto the floor. “You are coming as well, mountain boy.”

“Careful,” Kris growled, “he might just end up an higher status than you.”

“No” Tao interrupted, “all men and woman are equal, it does not matter if I will be your bride or not.”

The King silenced himself, watching with interest as the black haired teen stepped out of the hall, following the guards that had laughed at him so openly. He seemed relaxed, as if the hurtful words his guards had said meant nothing.

And it probably didn’t, he had heard stories as a boy of the people in the promised lands always having a bad past. All children and elders in the land are hurt, wounded. Because all end up running to the Monks when no one else will take them.

He shook his head, deciding to follow after his possible mate and seating himself down into the boxed shaped flying machine.

“To the promised lands” he spoke boldly, knowing very well what awaits him at those lands.

The lands he had set to destroy.

This chapter is like ten times shorter than the rest of the chapters.
