FALSE ALARM FALSE ALARM FALSE ALARM FALSE ALARM

So I was never good at doing backups. That is my history. I have a horrible history of doing regular backups when I have an equally horrible history of having laptops crash on me in awesomely catastrophic ways (motherboard fried twice, motherboard died, hard drive crashed twice). But ever since I took my A+ certification class I made a better effort to do backups, which is not at all a good effort. But I tried. Gaps in backup periods but the effort's there.

So while I have absolutely no fucking memory of ever doing any recent backups, I went ahead and decided to check my external hard drive, and while I couldn't find any trace of my fics outside of the backup icons, Windows Backup said I had a whole host of backup periods to choose from.

Including 6/7/2014 - 6/22/2014.

My folder of gifs. My collection of Trek novels. My fanfic PDFs. My fics. All of them. ALL OF THEM. From 2009(8?) until I shifted my most essential ones to google drive and worked from there, meaning the fics I haven't touched in months have been saved as they are. Meaning I HAVEN'T LOST A SINGLE IMPORTANT FILE OR FOLDER AFTER ALL.

Lesson 1: Back your shit up.
Lesson 2: Double-check whatever the flying fuck you're doing before moving to the next step.
Lesson 3: BACK YOUR SHIT UP REGULARLY.

2014, writing is hard, things that can't be ignored, i hate everything, story is the heart of the world, life or something like it, oh my god
