Letting me talk about Star Trek is inviting a rant built up over the day.

STID reaction post, featuring many variations on Benedickie Cumberslummin's name and a chain of reblogs about mocking his name and racism because heaven forbid a nonwhite person take potshots at the whitewashed casting choices this movie made.

Admiral Marcus did not exist in a fucking void.

So many questions about how these fuckers wrote Jim Kirk in STID.

The Federation Constitution (as written in the Star Fleet Technical Manual by Franz Joseph, a book which is considered non-canonical even though its info was used in several movies and the author and Roddenberry knew each other, so I'll just take everything with a spoonful of salt) says that Starfleet is to have fourteen heavy cruisers (Article 53, Section 1) and any number of assisting ships like shuttlecrafts, destroyers, scouts, and transports (Article 53, Section 2). Memory Alpha lists these ships being docked at Starbase 1 when the distress signal came out of Vulcan - the USS Antares, USS Farragut, USS Hood, USS Mayflower, USS Newton, USS Odyssey, USS Truman, and the USS Wolcott + the USS Enterprise. The USS Enterprise is the first Constitution class starship but I'm gonna assume they're all heavy cruisers. They fucking look like heavy cruisers.

So nine ships were at Starbase 1 when Vulcan sent a distress signal, meaning five ships were out in the Laurentian System (apparently the location of Rura Penthe), and yet the movie claims that most of Starfleet being in the Laurentian System in response to the Klingon distress call wrt Nero's Narada destroying 47 warbirds. So that means that at some point after the Narada first entered the past and destroyed the USS Kelvin the Constitution was amended to expand the number of heavy cruisers allowed in Starfleet. That's.... fascinating.

There's no actual full text of the Federation Constitution, but seeing as this is the closest one can get to a full-on constitution detailing as much shit as possible I'd go with it as a guideline.

Oh my god I think I broke my brain. Ow. Fucking ow.
