One.
I really need to stop mixing up Sam Flynn and Stiles Stilinski. My brain can't handle the disorienting confusion.
Two.
Took me long enough to experience the wrong side of privilege and be aware of it the entire time.
That whole chitchat with the racist fuck happened in a public space where everyone in that particular network circle could see it. Did anyone comment? No. I wrote it up the best I could in my space-within-space. Did anyone comment? No. I wrote it up on my journals and my Tumblr. Did anyone make note of it? Yes, on Tumblr, but not the people who should.
They're just so lucky they don't have to deal with this shit. They're so lucky they can turn a blind eye and just not think about it because it doesn't affect them. They're so lucky that they're white and don't have to deal with this bullshit occasionally, sometimes, frequently, every single fucking day.
You know who you are and I will forever give you the side-eye for never saying a thing while that asshole rained down racist bullshit in my face.
P.S. Three.
For about two weeks on my Tumblr profile I identified as "a woman of color". I changed it back to "person of color" because I took a look at the profile for the first time since I changed it and felt incredibly uncomfortable. Don't know why but while I get a good laugh out of people identifying me as male I always feel somewhat uneasy when people or I identify myself as a woman/female, which is confusing because it doesn't bother me that I'm cis female? Except I don't like putting it out there that I'm female? I always hesitate before marking down "female" in job apps. When profiles allow for it I choose not to identify at all. After all, ambiguity is the spice of life!
Maybe it's just an Internet thing? Maybe I just prefer not to be directly identified as a (cis) woman/female?
P.P.S. Four.
I'll probably have some Sam/Tron and Derek/Stiles things up later today, because I'm so terrible at keeping my journals updated.
