Picking through my folder of fics and I found this. I think I meant to write more but I got too busy and left it alone for too long. It's a shame I lost my momentum with this, since I always wanted to write Sam and Tron doing somewhat mundane things...though with Tron, and Quorra, nothing's ever that boring.
Tron in the real world: Sam takes Tron to a museum of natural history. What does Tron think of dinosaurs?!
He can already tell that Tron's going to have a harder time understanding museums than Quorra did.
"So you have museums..." Tron says slowly while Sam pays the admission fees and nicks a few brochures. "...that studies, catalogues, and displays obselete information for...future generations."
"Well, if you put it that way," Sam says as he herds Tron towards the entrance of the Natural History Museum. "Not one for old stuff either but Alan always said it's good to remember the past."
"Why?"
Sam hesitates as he unfolds the map and scans for exhibits. “So we can learn from it.”
He glances over the top of the map. Tron is frowning deeply in the direction of North American Mammals dioramas.
“Think of it like this - you memorize every encounter with gridbug swarms and Sentries so that you’ll know what to do the next time they show up. We just...externalize it and, uh, build really expensive buildings around it.”
“So what do you learn from those?”
Tron is pointing at the new massive Dinosaur Mysteries exhibit, arguably the most popular draw here. Sam studies the crowds marveling at the massive skeletal remains and wonders how many odd looks they’d get, what with Tron’s confusion and Sam’s general disinterest in these things.
“Man I should’ve made Alan bring you along,” he says. “He actually likes this stuff.” Then, “But not opera. He’s not taking you to see any operas.”
Tron just gives him a look that echoes a little too strongly of his parental figure. Sam sighs and starts prodding him towards the hall.
In other news I reallyreallyreally want to see the new Dinosaur Mysteries exhibit.
