I really hope I'm not reading into things, or taking things out of context, or being really biased and blinded by my temper and pride. Sometimes I just wish the NaNoWriMo forum staff could either make up their minds or confer with the people behind NaNoWriMo and agree to ban fan fiction or something.
Because, seriously? Moving all specific fandom-related threads to the FANS AND CRITICS forum under the OUTSIDE THE BOX umbrella?

Look, just make a fucking subgenre forum for "Fan Fiction". I swear to god, it's not that hard. Your reasoning is okay, but not good enough. You may think "Oh people who don't write fan fiction but are fans of the show can come here to see what you're writing and help you out", and think that's a good enough reason. It's not, okay? People who write fan fiction need a place where they can talk about the process of writing their goddamn fics; it's a writing board, for fuck's sake won't you at least acknowledge our existence and not group us with people who are fans who aren't writing fan fiction?
And for the love of god, Fans And Critics? Really? God, I can't even-this is unbelievable. Just fucking unbelievable. Fan fiction writers aren't just fans, you know. And we don't need critics; we already have enough critics.

On a more fandom-specific note...
I'm not exactly NaNo-ing...but I am working on a Supernatural fanfic.
I constantly seem to be putting OCs into my favorite fandoms so my fic centers around an OC who joins up with the boys (Dean was quite reluctant to let her but meh, he ends up liking her a helluva lot more than he planned). And yeah, eventually it's Dean/OC. Call her a Mary Sue or self-insert if you will, but *cough* she's not either. Because if she were a self-insert she'd be all over Sam, but Zoe has a mind of her own and fell for Dean. Was actually totally unplanned that way. 0_o
Ellen and Ash have made appearances as well since I love them and they're now both dead, which friggin sucks. Castiel will come along eventually - the fic starts mid-season-two, so he won't be around for a bit. ;-)
Supernatural is such a fun fandom to write. I love the brothers' relationship. They're great. =)
I don't care what you write. Really, I don't. If I did it would not be pretty. But here's the thing that just throws me off - did you really have to say that your OC is not and in no way a Mary Sue? Now that you've brought it up I see her as nothing but a Mary Sue. Congratulations, you just defeated your purpose. And your explanation for why she's not a Mary Sue is because if she was she'd be all over Sam like Becky?
