Outlines are your...friend.

At this point the only thing going for me is the somewhat comforting fact that I wrote and finished a story that was longer than 6 pages. All I need to do is write a better second draft, and then begin the process of proof-reading, editing, and finding long-suffering beta readers.

A few chats with two people - one who knows Supernatural and one with only passing knowledge of it - are helping me shape a revamped outline for a second go at this story. The five-year format stays, but I need to expand on the "windows" into those five years, make it a little more obvious that a lot of time passes and changes happen in between. The outline is becoming ridiculously detailed, so I don't know if everything I put in the outline will appear in the actual story, or if I choose which scenes to write and have the characters reference events I summarize in the outline.

Oh god what am I doing?

This doesn't even take into account the returning feeling of distress whenever I look at the politics/pundit RPF on my LJ friends list. Deprivation is a great reason to write, but I'm at a cross road with A North by Northwesterly Wind, so yes I am even more confused than ever before.
