lol exactly. Most people just slap the term Mary Sue on characters they hate, when it fact, Mary Sues can never exist in canon. Only in fanon. Because if Mary Sues could exist in canon, every protagonist under the sun would be considered a Mary Sue.
Mostly "Mary Sue's" are just like...everyone that makes the "gay and/or bad-ass characters" not gay and/or bad-ass.
Like...Haruhi Fujioka. Or...Tohru Honda. Or...(insert shoujo protagonist's name here) Or...Elise from Sonic '06 Or...that chick in Van Hellsing Or...(Insert RPG female protagonist name here)
But they aren't Mary Sues. Maybe in the now warped definition, yes. But in true terms, Mary Sues don't exist in canon because they need to be who they are to make the story continue.
Nope. Rinoa is just a badly-written character who had a lot of potential in a game that had a lot of potential but was also badly written in my opinion.
Oh no. I liked it, too. It's just that when I try to look at it from an objective perspective... yeah, the storyline could've been better and there was wasted potential there. I wouldn't change a thing about it, though.
But...I didn't see any flaws in it. All I saw was "DUDE THAT SWORD IS A GUN, THAT AWESOME!" "YOU CAN BE BAD ASS AND STILL HAVE A SWEET SIDE AND A CHICK THAT'S AWESOME!" "NOT HAVING TO BUY MAGIC!? AWESOME!"
Also you know how really pissed I was when I played FF8, then played FF7 and learned I had to BUY my powers? That...was really...really...really GAY!
I say Square needs to bring back DRAW POINTS. So you can waste your money on EQUIPMENT INSTEAD.
Understandable. I didn't get into RPGs (unless you count Zelda) until I was about 18/19. I was an adventure/platformer girl until then. Still am, actually. That's why I like games like KH and Drakengard and Zelda--you get to actually hit things!
I thought the same things about the game, too. But while I thought Rinoa was an awesome character some things just felt kind of forced and it felt like there was so much they could've done with her character to make it a better game. Same thing with Seifer. I would've loved to see him get a bit more "screen time" or development or something! Or, hell! I wanted to see Edea and Cid and Ultimecia herself expanded on. There's a lot there they could've done with in the game, but didn't.
Not that I want a Compilation of Final Fantasy VIII. I think they're overdoing it with VII as it is. Two or three things would've been fine, but how much retconning have they done now?!
And the battle system was awesome. I couldn't play FF7 after that one. I really couldn't. It was just much too boring for me.
