Finished watching "Arrietty" just now.
It's that Ghibli movie based off another book (like Howl) that just came out last year. There was a great rave about it in Japan while I was there but, I didn't have a chance to see it in theaters even tho my aunt insisted we go see it. x_X;

It was actually very good. There isn't much "plot" but, this wasn't really a story about in-depth-plot in my opinion. If anything, it was just a long scene portraying the two different worlds between humans and the tiny people (who are said to be 10 cm big) and what happens when the two worlds interact.

But unlike Princess Mononoke or Spirited Away which was just an abrupt "ok we're from two civilizations/worlds so, we can't interact so BYE!" or Ponyo where it was like "ok! Two different worlds? Well, screw that we're gonna live together now!" there was a more satisfying, logical ending in my opinion. Maybe cuz I already figured they can't share worlds and kinda accepted the fact while in Princess Mononoke, I couldn't accept the fact that they weren't together. X_X;; lol /expecting too much?

There's something about Ghibli movies (or maybe just this one especially) where the weight of things was animated in a way where the viewer can get the feel of the weight. Since we won't know how it feels to be a tiny person, I thought it was quite interesting how the animation really emphasized the weight of objects.

Even the simplest things such as the scene where the aunt gets off the car and the car slightly tilts and shakes due to her weight. I also very much liked how liquid got a lot of attention this time. Miyazaki films in general concentrates a lot on air and motion due to the wind. This time it felt like water/liquid had a lot of emphasis to draw out the characters. ie: rain falling, water drops falling off each leaf, each drop of tea pouring into the cup like a blob, Arrietty's tears being like a huge bead and rolling off her cheek.

It's those small things I really appreciate in this film this time. TAT;; I may be exaggerating a lot of points but, Iono. . . that's how I felt. LOL If you watch LQ cheap animation you'll notice the lack of attention in detail obviously. XD Many animations lately have been cheated with 3D lately tho. It's kinda hard to tell. @_@;;

Also the BGs in this movie really struck my fancy. *^* It was so pretty! The old European furniture and the dark colors really worked. It vaguely reminded me of the early 1900s Japan around the Meiji era. haha

BLAH BLAH RAMBLEEEEEEEE! PROCRASTINATING.
