For some reason I ended up spending all morning randomly reading Ainu myths. X_x; After watching a lot of animu n'stuff I think a lot of people have a general idea of Japanese Gods and myths but, it's kinda interesting to see a lot of series taking in and making spin-offs of all these myths too ( Read more... )

I wish there was a class just for Japanese philosophy/religion. If it was related to anime/manga I know I'd be head over heels for it. |||orz

There's actually an online comic on pixiv that draws out all the Shinto myths in a very amusing manner. XD I haven't been able to keep up with her work much but, it's very funny how she draws out some episodes from the Shinto myths. Maybe when I have time I will translate it ( ... )

I'd be afraid of the insensitive people who would make unnecessary comments. There will always be one in every class if it's related to religion, imo. lol x_x;

Those myths are portrayed kinda funny. It's like. . . first gods had a kid but they thought their baby was ugly so they dumped him out into the sea! :D I'm sure it was written in a more meaningful manner but idk, I think it's funnier sometimes when it's straight to the point. XD

This is a great sum up. Ty! I do find japan's belief system fascinating and wanted to get a better idea of shintoism. I like how you broke down what is what.

A bunch of religious concepts are used in anime a lot but, many people don't know what the origins are. It took me a while to figure out the differences as well, actually. XD I'm the type of person who'd go into temples in japan and be all "ooo pretty. Wait, who am I praying to again?" LOL
