"vengeance keeps us sane"

I'm not sure if they really intend it to be a surprise when Reid figures out the golden ratio relevance, but if yes, maybe they should've thought twice before giving it away in the first two minutes. (And speaking of that scene, hello, hallucinogen cam! I don't recall seeing you here before.) I have this general impression that CM writers aren't often guilty of assuming that viewers are morons--oh, except when they are. See 'hobo code is totally obscure and you can't look it up on Wikipedia, oh no' for example. But definitely not to the extent the CSI:NY writers used to be when I still watched (and enjoyed!) that. Maybe I've whined about unsurprising surprises in television enough for this week, though.

Reid! Oh, his lame little joke and oh, Rossi trying to stop him. ♥

I have an unfortunate aftertaste of anti-intellectualism in my mouth from the ep, but I'm not entirely sure where I'm getting that from. Ultimately, Rossi beat Creepy McCreeperson in a battle of wits pretty spectacularly. I suppose it comes down to the 'right' kind of intelligence vs. the 'wrong' kind, which, definitely nothing new under the sun. And then of course the third kind: endearing, useful, but also socially awkward and profoundly other. Not all of us see the world in hallucinogen cam!

(Why am I so picky and grumpy about all shows this week? What if, come weekend, I feel this way about Merlin? DNW.)

So, JJ's replacement. I'm... undecided. Okay, a big part of that is the way there was no Morgan being awesome with either Garcia or Reid in this ep, because he was busy interacting with Todd. In a way that looks alarmingly like they'll be bickering bosom buddies by next week. I do like that she called him out on undermining her credibility with the detective like that. It's Morgan, I can see how the intention wasn't that at all, but still. Uhh. Maybe she'll turn out awesome. I didn't exactly cheer for Rossi or Prentiss when they joined, either.
