Inside his head, it was just chaos and voices. He heard his own mind screaming at him.
You have to stop it this time.
His eyes searched for the watch on the wrist.
3 minutes left.
He could make it.
But when he entered the room, fire extinguisher in his hands, it was a yoga class that was waiting for him. He run to the window, trying to get what went wrong and why the woman wasn’t there. Then he saw the bus going on the opposite side of the street.
«No...» he whispered as he felt his heart stitching. He run again, out of there and down the stairs as fast as he could, hoping and praying like it was his own life at stake - and to some extent it was true, wasn’t it?
He passed through the door and the street, straight to the square. But the ringing of his watch was the familiar reminder that time was up. It was his loss. He started to slow down and turned around, because he couldn’t bring himself to watch after all.
The glass breaking, the screams loud and clear. And the body of the young woman crashing hard on the roof of the bus.
Eijun stayed still. He bit back and covered his mouth with a hand to refrain from crying.
He failed again.
Sometimes he wondered why he even struggled so much to try to reach out for them. He knew he needed to try, for his own good and sanity; he couldn’t ignore them even if he wanted to. But like this, he wasn’t sure how much he could keep going.
He braced himself. With his 26 years behind and 10 of them not lived at all, he moved in the crowd, disappearing in the street.
