Couple o' quick reviews of stuff picked up over the weekend.
Up first, from the G.I. Joe Built to Rule line, we have the
Raging Typhoon.
This is the largest and most expensive of the current crop of G.I. Joe BTR sets. It has 172 pieces in it. The primary mode is a large hovercraft with mini recon vehicle in the back. There are four other vehicles you can make out of it, but as with the BTR Armadillo, making the primary was time consuming, so I doubt I'll make the other configurations. The Raging Typhoon comes with a repainted Blowtorch figure from one of the early G.I. Joe Vs Cobra waves. This figure is now classic Blowtorch as the costume is colored exactly as the first figure's was. Much better than the blister packed GvsC Blowtorch. Here is
Blowtorch. This is a very cool vehicle. Not only does it have multiple missle launchers and machine guns, it has a large rotary barrel launcher, the mini vehicle that is stored in the back, as seen in
this pic.. As seen in the Blowtorch pic, the two cockpit hatches open, and the torpedo platforms on either pontoon can be raised into position.
The vehicle is very sturdy, despite its width, so it makes an excellent water vehicle for the Joes(even though I imagine it would sink like a rock in real water). So, for $30 you get a pretty cool vehicle, with lots of optional constructions, a cool Blowtorch figure and lots of fun.
Next we have the
Blackout 12 Inch.
Blackout is one of the new characters in the G.I. Joe Vs Cobra figure line. His brother is Barrel Roll of the Joe team, which is in itself a first, since I don't believe there has ever been brothers on opposing sides before.
His body is of the older style construction and his chest and arms are molded to look like a sweater. I don't much care for this, but it won't interfere with an actual cloth top once I get one. He comes with black trousers, cool looking boots with a knife sheath in the left boot, a nice looking black and silver assault rifle that comes with a scope, a launcher that fits on top of the scope, a pair of amber-tinted goggles, a knife, a gauntlet for his right arm, and an armor vest.
He's got a great head sculpt that puts his 3 3/4" figure to shame. Though, the smaller figure's uniform is way better looking. The rifle, while lacking a removable magazine, is pretty good looking with its silver and black highlights. The scope mounted on top is a nice touch, though the launcher that goes on this is rather strange, since he is now firing a missle from the scope of his weapon. The chest armor, which actually covers neck-to-crotch is pretty good looking. It is silver and black, with a Cobra logo on the chest.
All-in-all, for $10 you get a pretty nifty figure, that does have good customization potential.
