Chapter 2

Taku wasn’t happy. He was certainly used to his brother’s cuts and bruises and to his whining to some extend but when Hayato was down with the cold, he simply made the whole surrounding a living hell, especially for Taku who was stuck with him 24 hours in the weekends. He would have been running to school if it was open on that particular day as well just to be relieved of Hayato and his constant groaning.

“For the last time, nii-san; you are not going to die of a cold. And you don’t have a fever!”

“You certain? I can feel I am burning up. Try another thermometer.”

“Fine!” Oh, how he wished for Take or Ryu were there. Then they would shut him up and make his life easier.

He found the third thermometer in one of the kitchen drawers, hidden behind other useless stuff they had. When he was about to return to his brother’s side, when Taku was saved by the doorbell ringing. He opened the door quickly, threw the thermometer to a surprised Take and bounced back to grab his shoes to run for his freedom.

“He is now in your hands, Take-san. Good luck!”

“Don’t tell me he is still sick!” said Take a bit scared.

“Yeah, and still whining too.”

Take heard a soft sniffing from the living room and approached to the grumpy one silently.

“TAKU!” The sudden yell from the sick boy made him jump but he still managed to hand out the object he was holding a bit too tightly.

“Hi, didn’t hear you coming in.” said Hayato with a hoarse voice. He was wrapped in a blanket looking all too pathetic for his sake.

“Any better?”

“No. Taku says I am but I still feel like a zombie.” Hayato sniffed a bit more and took a tissue.

“Should I make some...”

“I saw him” Hayato said out of blue and Take knew who he was referring to without a need of explanation. Hayato wasn’t the type to open up even to his closest friends but Take knew him well enough to see through him. Of all times, today he wanted to tell the sick boy the truth behind Ryu’s sudden betrayal but he still couldn’t. With a defeated sigh, reflecting his own disappointment in himself, Take asked what he has seen.

“I saw them the other night. He was with someone else. With that brat; Ren or something.”

“And?”

“Never mind, it’s none of my business, right?” If it made the boy to be this down, Take’s curiosity peaked in finding out about it.

“Tell me, you’ll feel better.”

“It’s just that, they were a bit intimate. You know. So I kinda interfered and we argued or fought or something...”

“I see” was all Take could answer. He knew, deep down Hayato cared for Ryu as more than friends and catching him with another boy must have hurt like hell. So Hayato’s illness was part psychological. He knew Hayato was stubborn and would never admit the real reason behind his attack. Take had no choice to make him realize it.

“Why?” he asked.

“Why what?” answered Hayato being clueless.

“Why did you interfere?”

“Oh. Well...” he took a moment to actually think before replying “He looked all too happy.”

“Happy?”

“Yeah and of course I couldn’t handle it. After what we had gone through it pissed me off to see him enjoying himself with a brat.” Take just stared at Hayato.

“And he is even from a rival school. Not to mention he is younger. And Ryu was basically devouring him in an alley; dirty one, mind you!”

“Ok. So you stopped them because you wanted to see Ryu miserable and left with a hard on while he was doing it with another boy under unhygienic conditions?” asked Take frowning.

“That summarizes it, yeah” Hayato, content with his answer. “Also the brat was bruised and he was wet when I left him!”

“Yeah you were too and now you are ill. I am worried about Ryu.”

“Oi! I am the sick one! Stop worrying about other people!”

But Ryu is not just another person, Hayato Take thought before gathering his courage to speak his mind.

“Listen, Hayat-”

“Don’t wanna!” Hayato pouted “It was not my fault! He asked for this and I am -Achoo- ahh...not interested in you defending him.”

“But-”

“I am gonna sleep, go away!” Hayato disappeared under the blankets leaving Take alone with his aching conscious.

“That stupid, idiot of a moron!” was heard from a bedroom of the big villa, followed by continuous sneezing. “Next time, Yabuki, I’ll skin you alive.”

“Ryu?”

“Yeah?” Ryu looked up from under his duvet to see his mother carrying a tray full of food for him. She left the tray on the night stand and went back to her kitchen after Ryu nodded thanks to her.

He didn’t have any appetite but he had to take his medicine otherwise his father would be *very unpleased  with him. He was already a burden, having to stay in bed, not doing anything useful - not that he had done any when he could- and especially annoying him with his constant sneezing and coughing.

He sighed deeply; another reason to torture Hayato, was born. Seriously who would stop a person in the middle of- He blushed slightly - Damn you, Yabuki Hayato! Not only that he never answered to any of his flirting when they were still together but now he even dared to smash doors, tables and Ren just to irritate him. What did he have against his needs?

With a groan he gulped down his food. He was getting hungrier as he was getting angrier. He answered his phone with a similar grunt making the boy in the line to freeze momentarily.

“Are you alright, Ryu?”

“I am fine, Ren; Just fuming because of that idiot. How are your injuries?”

“They are almost healed but I didn’t hear from you in two days. Wait, what’s up with your voice? You ill by any chance?”

“Hn, I fell into the pool and had to walk all the way back.”

“I shouldn’t have let you go with that bastard!” Ren yelled suddenly.

“I dragged him in as well. No worries there!”

“Hehe, as expected from the Dragon! Mind if I ask when can we next meet up?” Ren sounded a bit nervous, Ryu noticed.

“I don’t want to pass the illness on you so next week maybe? I’ll call you if am better by then”

“That works. See you later then.”

“yeah”

“And Ryu, take care of yourself” Ryu smiled hearing that gentle voice.

“Yeah I will.”

Why couldn’t Hayato ever be like this; gentle, caring, loving... but Ryu was stuck with the reality where Hayato was an insensitive, short tempered prick. He sighed again. Maybe the cold was affecting his thinking as well; it was unusual of him to wish things that wouldn’t come true.

He tucked himself in the duvet and closed his eyes just to be haunted by images of Hayato and him throughout the whole night.
