...the Konami code is a fantastic Easter egg for your home page. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ab[enter]. Do it. Now. SO SHINY! SO FUN!

Also, I just got out of my Latin exam, and it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I actually blanked on fewer words than my Greek exam, even though Virgil was so much harder and I did a lot less of the work. Going back over the passages made me realise how much I need to actually read the Æneid instead of just frantically trying to untangle the syntax of 100 lines and translate them as I go. It's so amazing and so beautiful and so tragic. I'm going to try hard to read it in Latin over the summer, along with all the other books I want to read, along with my German course (OMG did I mention? I'm taking an online course in German over the summer).

So, in both my Greek and Latin term papers, my professors commented that I was making wild claims which were difficult to substantiate. This is true, to an extent, but in Greek a lot of the evidence I'd have to discuss was waaay outside the scope of my paper. I was discussing the relationship between gender roles and poison (φἀρμακα) in the Odyssey, and even though I went out of my way to consult Plutarch and Agrippa, my paper was ultimately about Homeric gender roles, not esoteric philosophy. Also, in Latin, I suppose my claims were wild and dangerous, and I would have had to work very hard to give them a more solid basis, but I flatly refused to do more research than was absolutely necessary, because it would have taken my rather too far afield, and that class had already eaten my soul. I only consulted the Iliad and Suetonius's Lives of the Cæsars because I was already using the former for my Greek paper and the latter was mentioned in my textbook's commentary. Well, next semester I'll have plenty of time to improve on them, I'm sure, since I'm taking Junior Year Writing, aka Classical Scholarship, which will be all about writing analytical papers and grant proposals. And Prof. Wallace will be teaching the course, so weirdness will be par for the course.

Also in recent news, I am unwashed and smelly. I actually have stopped minding. Well, the smelly bit anyway. I still feel ucky being unwashed. So, without further ado, I'm off to shower before meeting Matchstick and our friend Liz for lunch.
