The Rainbow

The Rainbow

Clouds of contrasting white and grey reach up into the atmosphere.
Below the choppy water reflects, turning thunderous grey.
Rain falls, circles dance across its surface.
The wind roars and the rain is sharp percussion.
Behind me the low sun shines white, the landscape veiled in misty skeins of rain.

Blue sky meets retreating clouds, some solid mass of white, some feathery, some ragged grey.
The rainbow touches the lake in a pool of colour; its reflection reaches out to me.
So close!
I walk beneath its arch, vibrant colour against the dark sky.

Silence after the rain.

The sun reveals the rainbow’s touch, a landscape painted in vibrant greens and rich browns.
A smudge of colour hangs in the sky.
I chase it’s ever retreating form.
Above the volumous clouds march on without me.
