ScriptFrenzy 2011 - 2nd Excerpt
A second excerpt of "A Life Less Ordinary". This takes place early in Episode 9: Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season. The title (once again) comes from a Jimmy Buffett song, although it's only the title that really inspired me. :)
Just in case, the synopsis for this series is here and the first excerpt is here. This is a comedy-drama, and this excerpt is more comedy than drama. :D Oh, and sorry for the formatting - I'm too mellow to fight with it today.
DAISY
You're where?!
CUT TO:
INT. JAIL CELL - DAY
DAISY and REBECCA come into the cell block. ZEKE and MANNY are in adjoining cells, lying on their bunks. They get up and go to the bars when they see DAISY and REBECCA.
MANNY:
Hey, guys.
DAISY
Don't “hey guys” me! I can't believe you ended up in jail!
REBECCA
What's the story? The cop at the front desk was pretty pissed.
MANNY
Oh, that's because Zeke got him all riled up. We didn't do anything really bad.
ZEKE
I would like to say - for the record - that this is all her fault.
MANNY
(to ZEKE)
Thanks.
DAISY
(to ZEKE)
I don't care - I'm blaming you anyway!
ZEKE
Hey!
REBECCA
(to MANNY)
Come on - spill!
MANNY
Are you gonna be able to get us out of here?
DAISY
Depends on what you've done!
MANNY
Well, we didn't kill anybody!
ZEKE
What's this “we” business? I'm an innocent bystander!
MANNY
Oh, please! You drove the getaway car!
ZEKE
(at the same time as REBECCA)
We didn't get away, remember? We didn't even get to the car!
REBECCA
(at the same time as ZEKE)
Oh, my God - you robbed a bank!?
DAISY
That's - that's - that's a lot of time...
MANNY
We didn't rob a bank!
ZEKE
I wasn't there!
DAISY, REBECCA, MANNY
Shut up!
ZEKE
Well, I wasn't...
MANNY
Look...
CUT TO:
FLASHBACK
ZEKE comes over a slight hill towards a beach, where MANNY is sunbathing, although all we see is the back of her head.
ZEKE
Hey, there you are - Ted told me -
MANNY grabs the towel, giving a little shriek as she does so. ZEKE realizes she's topless, does a guy yell and quickly turns his back.
ZEKE
Holy - you're naked!
MANNY
Just topless! I didn't expect you to find me!
ZEKE
Oh, you were expecting Ted, maybe?
MANNY
I wasn't expecting anybody! Ted said this was a private beach, and I could sunbathe nude if I wanted.
ZEKE
Why would you want to?
MANNY
What do you want?
ZEKE
Are you decent?
COP
Yeah, too late now.
MANNY gapes at the COP, then hangs her head and groans.
END FLASHBACK
CUT TO:
INT. JAIL - DAY
DAISY
So, this...Ted set you up?
REBECCA
Indecent exposure? Manny - I'm so proud!
ZEKE
Stop encouraging her! Honestly!
DAISY
On the one hand, I'm with Rebecca. On the other hand, I agree with Zeke - and that can never be good.
ZEKE
Hey!
REBECCA
You should see us when we don't like you. Which brings us to Ted...he deliberately set you up?
Oh, and 74 pages typed, with another...ummm....close to a hundred handwritten??? Or so... A lot of it's crap, but I'm seriously considering turning it into a novel... :)
