One Fine Day in the Middle of the Night

I read my first Christopher Brookmyre book last night (finished it this morning around 1:30 a.m.).

I LOVED IT!!!

Besides being funny in a dark/gross/gory kinda way, it was a lovely character study AND a kick-ass action-packed thriller.  Or maybe I loved it so much because he referenced The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy not once but TWICE while assuming you knew what the hell he was talking about!  Or the references he made to some of my favourite action movies as well as one of my favourite war movies, Gallipoli!!   Guh!!!**

Or maybe it just benefited enormously from my trying to read Flashman a couple of hours before I read this one and almost anything would IMO be better than that book??  (Although there was Last Night at the Lobster in between, so maybe not so much...)

Sorry, I've been on a small book binge this weekend and I'm a bit wired because of it.  :)  What that means, though, is out of the six books I got from the library on Thursday, there's only one left.  :(

ANYWAY, just wanted to gush over how much I loved this book, how sad I am that it's a library book and I have to return it, and how much I'm looking forward to reading more of his stuff (as well as buying a copy of this book).

------------

**That's not to say it was perfect; there were a couple of things where I thought he'd dropped the ball a bit - but those were minor and did not detract from my enjoyment of this book at all.
