It seems Dad's having a midlife crisis.. he quit his salaried job with MVP (health insurance company), & has decided to go to school to be a truck driver. I'd be happier for him if it weren't for the fact that as soon as he leaves the company, I lose my health insurance as a rider on his employee plan. This means that effective September 5th, I will no longer be insured. I had a doctor appointment scheduled for the 6th, so I called the office this morning & managed to snag a last-minute cancelllation on the 4th. This way, I don't have to deal with paying out the nose just yet. Unfortunately, this means I have to miss work at Staples (yet again) because my appointment starts an hour into my scheduled shift. Oh well, I was lucky to even get that schedule change at all.
Dad gave his quit notice yesterday, but instead of it being a regular two-week notice, it's effective as of today. Meaning today is his last day of work, & I have less than a week to find a new insurance plan. Jesse's job at Unisys can't give me rider coverage because we aren't married, and since we're not ready to get hitched at this point, I've decided to pursue Medicaid. Trouble is, the processing time is abominably slow. I know I qualify for it, it's a matter of getting the right documents to prove my identity & filling out all the paperwork. The one I need- my birth certificate- is at Dad's house. Guess where Dad's going after his last day of work? On vacation for a week in Niagara with Jean. His filing system consists of two bedrooms filled with boxes, so my chances of finding it are nearly zilch without his help.
Another thing I have to contend with is pre-existing conditions. Yep. Mental health (I'm not treated for bipolar disorder, but if I decide to start therapy again I'm screwed), and pregnancy. Because pregnancy is considered "planned" (yeah fucking right, like I DECIDED my birth control pill was going to let me down), it also counts as pre-existing. There are exceptions with prenatal care, but it's up to a legal representative to decide that. And when I hear "legal representative", I get a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach.
So I have a week to get health insurance & hope nothing bad happens, or I'm fucked.
Damnit.
oh shit,
