Sunday was Dance Church for a short moment, and then back to take care of mom. She communicates with her eyes, and she smiles sometimes.
Then home, jiggity jig for my Sunday dinner.
I've taken to inviting people every Sunday to my house for a dinner.
It doesn't have to be fancy and it doesn't have to be many people, but it's just pure fun. I like inviting people from all walks to life. I call it a tossed people salad.
Two Sundays ago it was 8 freaking people plus me. More than I expected and I had to wash dishes in the middle just to make it through main and desert course. Then there was the problem with the devil-made contraption known as the crock pot .... It took 8 hours for the rice to cook. And then when it was done, I had beef vegetable glop with rice.
People ate it. But what saved the day was the great greasy gobs of steak!! I had enough for everyone to have a good amount. And the salad. I make mean salads.
And -- thank the meek goddess of domesticity -- there were 2 bottles of wine ...... And only 2 serious drinkers, me and this other guy.
So it all passed in a pleasant haze ... of drinking, eating and sometimes talking .... I think one of the places mentioned was the Rubber Rose ... What the heck is that?
This Sunday, sanity prevailed and I only had 4 people, including me. Dinner was fillet of cod (butter, the secret is butter), eggplant smothered in marinera, basil, and slices of fresh mozzarella.
Curse that crock pot. Enemy to taste! Slave to convenience. It only took me one hour of prep, and one hour of cooking. Down with crock pots. Bad. Bad.
My friend Tamara brought salad. She likes salad with lots of everything except lettuce. So avocado, tomatoes, feta cheese, onion and oh yes. Lettuce. The green leafy romaine kind. ... Yum. Yum.
Finally: Desert: Creamy, vanilla ice cream topped with macademia nut liquor from Hawaii .....
A perfect evening, followed by a stroll along La Jolla Shores.
Ah. Life is good. Yum. Pat tummy. Mmmmmm.
