oh gosh I have new shoes
for the first time in eight years (nine years?).
The old ones (you're probably familiar, I wear them all the damn time) are brown DM gibsons, with the soles worn so slick I can skate on tile floors. (And nowadays they also sport a growing hole in the righthand shoe, which I keep trying to pretend doesn't exist).
The new ones (well, you're pretty much already familiar, because watch:) are black DM gibsons, with fat thick deep treads. And these ones, joy upon joys, are 100% animal-free. sweet!
I had forgotten what a UK shoe in "my size" feels like: I'm about a 5 US, making me (officially) a 4 UK, only the 4's are so unimaginably big that they are unwearable. So I get the 3's.
When I first got the old shoes, it took me about a month to be able to wear them without bandaging my feet. The new ones seem to be following the same trend.
wow! the blood is rushing out of my feet!
Still no internet, and after a week of fighting with the phone company ("I think you need to send someone here to connect the wires." "Oh no we don't!") I'm not too hopeful. arrrrgh.
