Summary: He hasn’t forgotten their past, but he’s uncertain about their present.
(It’s been two years. And two years is a damn long time, you think. It’s a damn long time and it’s been hard-)
“Stop staring.”
“I can’t yet. I’m coming to a conclusion.”
(It’s been so hard but you can’t tell him that. Maybe you could admit it to one of the others, but it isn’t one of the others who’ve found you. It’s him.)
“What conclusion is that?”
“Your face has gotten uglier.”
(Somehow, that makes this even harder, and that’s something you haven’t considered.)
Sanji looks down at the Wanted poster in his hand, then back up at Zoro, nodding decidedly. “Yep. Ugly face.”
(Because you don’t know where things stand with him anymore.)
“If it’s ugly, why are you carrying it around in your pocket?”
“It’s so frightening it keeps away the evil spirits.”
(And you want-)
“Your eyebrows only work on mosquitoes, huh?” Zoro reaches for the hair that’s covering the right side-the wrong side-of Sanji’s face.
(You want to see him just the way you remember, but you can’t do that.)
“Don’t even think about it.” Sanji grabs his wrist and the jolt that goes through them makes their bodies stiffen and tingle and burn all at once.
(You want to kiss him, but you can’t do that either, can you? It’s been two years.)
Zoro starts to pull his hand away, and Sanji’s fingers tighten around him and tug, and suddenly they’re much closer than they have been in (two years) so long. Their lips brush and it isn’t enough, but it’s all they can do for now. They’ll have to wait, just wait a little while longer.

“Shit.” Sanji sighs against his mouth. “It’s been so hard.”
“Stop teasing, then, or it’ll get harder.”
When Sanji smirks at him, it’s just the way he remembers.
