Chapter 1,
Chapter 2 SeungRi sucked in a huge breath the moment the darkness disappeared from his eyes and he stopped suffocating. He blinked furiously as his eyes adjusted to the dim lighting of the room he was in.
“What, you guys can teleport?” he asked incredulously, turning to look at JiYong with wide eyes.
JiYong shrugged. “Only home. You know, for survival purposes. Makes it kind of awkward when I try to do it and I don’t actually have a home. Then it just looks like I’m this incredible dumbass doing twirls in mid-air for no apparent reason.” He dropped SeungRi’s hand then, and SeungRi immediately felt a sense of deep loss in that connection. This made him pause for a moment in confusion. Why would he miss JiYong’s touch? He’d certainly never heard of this kind of feeling when his mother had explained to him the effects of being a Bond-Fate.
SeungRi looked around the room to hide his discomfort. He had to say, he was impressed. Clearly, JiYong lived well. Very well. His eyes rested on the numerous paintings that hung on the walls, guessing that they were all probably genuine, and then looked up at the crystal chandelier that hung above their heads. The rest of the decor was similarly elegant and tasteful, and made SeungRi feel poor just looking at it all.
JiYong let SeungRi take in his house, watching with a sense of satisfaction at the amazement reflected in the boy’s eyes. All of a sudden, JiYong felt an irrational surge of worry. What if SeungRi didn’t like it? What if he thought it was all very pretentious or, worse, gaudy?
JiYong shook off the feeling. What did he care if SeungRi liked it or not? He didn’t even really know him anyway. Besides, he didn’t have to impress his mate; the Bond did that for him. Hmm... perhaps JiYong liked the unwavering adoration on SeungRi’s part a bit too much. It wasn’t as if SeungRi had any choice if he felt that way.
“Nice place,” SeungRi finally managed to say, struggling to keep his jaw from hanging.
“I guess. It wasn’t me, though. Chaerin wouldn’t let me choose so much as the pattern on the kitchen doilies!” JiYong frowned. “But I guess she did better than I would have.”
“I’d say so,” murmured SeungRi, still a bit dazed. Then the rest of JiYong’s statement sunk in, and his eyes creased in confusion. “Who’s Chaerin?”
JiYong looked at SeungRi, surprised. “Oh. I guess I forgot to mention her name. Chaerin’s my girlfriend. She lives with me here.”
“And you said she was a human.”
JiYong shifted uncomfortably. “Yeah, so what? I love her.”
“But she’s a human!” SeungRi stared at JiYong, the entire idea of a vampire dating a human completely baffling to him. He’d been raised to fear vampires; he’d been told that they wanted nothing more from humans than their blood.
JiYong frowned at SeungRi’s slightly insulting tone. “Yeah, and? You’re human, aren’t you?”
“Yeah, but I’m a Bond-Fate!”
At this, JiYong looked at SeungRi critically. “You know, for a Bondie, you’re taking this whole situation awfully well. No freaking out or moaning about your freedom. I’d think you wanted to be Bonded by the way you’re acting.”
SeungRi shrugged. “Believe me, I freaked. You were just unconscious for that part. I had all night to moan about it. And it’s not like you’re all that bothered either.”
“That’s because I know better than to be bothered by it. It’s not that I wanted to be Bonded, but now that I am there’s nothing I can do about it. Besides, nothing’s going to change much. I’ll just feed off of you once in a while and we can both live our lives like we did before.” JiYong raised his arms in a ‘what-can-you-do?’ gesture.
SeungRi raised an eyebrow. “I’m not sure how this kind of thing works. But are you sure there’s nothing to be done? No ancient voodoo magic or creep rituals to do?” He asked this last part a bit desperately. Sure, he’d accepted his fate, but that didn’t mean he was happy about it.
JiYong nodded. “Dead sure. I had a friend who had to go through 10 unwilling Bondings before he had had enough of it and Turned the next Bondie he found. Now he’s free. But you don’t strike me as the type who’d want to be Turned.” JiYong looked at SeungRi keenly.
“No.” SeungRi said this immediately, without hesitation. His face paled at the thought, and a shudder ran through him. “No way in hell am I going to become one of you.”
JiYong frowned, SeungRi’s words hurting him even if they shouldn’t. “Then I guess you’re stuck with me forever.”
“Fine.” SeungRi let out a deep breath and crossed his arms angrily. No, it wasn’t fine. He didn’t want this! He didn’t want to be Bonded to some rich guy who already had a girlfriend and clearly didn’t want him either! He hadn’t even wanted to be Bonded in the first place! Wasn’t that why he’d gotten so angry last night? His girlfriend had been yelling at him again for going out longer than he was supposed to and he’d been fed up at the overprotection! And look where he was now! No freedom, and Bonded to boot!
But then again, at least he hadn’t been Bonded to a jerk or a prissy girl. At least JiYong seemed like a decent guy, even if he was apparently straight. They’d just have to try and do what JiYong suggested earlier, keeping the Bond strictly to a routine feeding schedule and then resuming their separate lives. But there was a part of him that worried that it wouldn’t be enough. SeungRi avoided the thought, trying to be optimistic. Of course, there wasn’t all that much that he could be optimistic about at this point.
“About that arrangement,” he began tentatively. He was cut off however, when JiYong suddenly raised a finger to his lips and his eyes flashed over to the far end of the room. SeungRi could hear it now, the sharp tapping of heels on the hardwood floor. And then he heard a voice.
“Jiyongie? Was that you I heard? Where have you been, darling?!”
A woman rounded the corner and SeungRi felt a confusing rush of jealously and lust. Because the woman who’d just appeared happened to be the most beautiful woman he’d ever met in his life.
