I realize that I have not updated in some time. It feels like so much has been going on and also like not much has been going on all at the same time. Most all of my personal actions have been focused on upcoming trips. Yes it is finally that time of year where the trips can begin! My company has a restriction on personal travel during the early months of the year due to it typically being a higher booking period. They want “all hands on deck” to fully support the sales process.
I was supposed to go to Boston a couple of weekends ago but that wound up falling through for a better opportunity. I am on a ‘task force’, per se, to formulate a new sales database administration program for our sales force. It will also be linked (eventually) to a CRM - customer relations management - system. It will be truly state-of-the-art in developing marketing strategies on how better to accommodate the needs of our guests. This would apply to every step of the sales process from inquiries to complaint management. Anyhow, this task force began its meetings during one of the dates when I was supposed to be in Boston. This task force is an incredible opportunity to have my input make a difference on a system that will have great implications in our business processes. Thus, I was gladly able to forego a weekend in Boston.
My day-to-day activities have not really changed too much from my last update. I have been keeping up with the gym and feverishly studying my languages. I completed my Pimsleur level III French course as well as level I of Danish. It has been fun to experience the Danish language but I MUCH prefer Norwegian. Norwegian is spoken much more concisely and phonetically where Danish tends to run sounds together and have a LOT of diphthongs … where a simple combination of a letter or two creates a sound one would NOT expect from looking at the word. I look forward to applying some of this knowledge in Copenhagen in May and also on the variety of flights starting this week on Scandinavian Airlines and in May.
The biggest news as of right now is that I leave tomorrow for Paris! John, Chris, Kurt, and I all are meeting at 4:30PM to carpool to Sea-Tac. We then depart at 7:50PM on Scandinavian Airlines to Paris via Copenhagen. We have a bit of a layover in Kastrup airport but I DO love that airport. The only drawback is that we get into Paris at nearly 8:00PM. That will just cause us to have to drop our bags at the hotel and go out from there right away! We’ll obviously do our best to get on an earlier standby flight to Charles de Gaulle.
We get back into Seattle on Tuesday evening and then it’s back to work on Wednesday morning. I’ll then have just over a month to start (and finish) my new Pimsleur level III Italian course. I know, I’m a language maniac - oh well. That will come in most handy for our trip to the Mediterranean in May. More details to come on that later!
For now, it is back to packing and getting ready to fly outta here tomorrow!
