Yet again it’s been some time since I’ve updated here but what else is new? Since I last checked in I spent a week aboard ship for work sailing to Alaska. To say the least it was an incredible experience to be able to not only do what I love but also display my work in front of upper management at Holland America Line. While it was a lot of work, I got to do some amazing things on my free time. This included going on a whale watching expedition, watching a bald eagle be freed into the open, zip lining, and rock wall climbing. The zip lining experience was really something else and a true test of my personal courage and self confidence. Getting through the obstacle course combined with the zip line was a great experience. We then had the opportunity to rock climb which I’ve never done. I’d say the biggest thing that I learned was to NOT look down once you get to the top. I was almost up to the top, trying to find another place to get my foot or hand on and then I looked down at my co-workers who were then ants. I vowed from that point forward to not look down again and focus one-hundred percent on the target. It was something else!
Since then I’ve been getting acclimated to work again and getting back into my gym routine. I’ve noticed since turning thirty that it’s miraculously easy to gain a little bit of weight. I’ve made a vow to really cut back on calories and I’ve been eating salads for dinner all week in addition to my normally healthy eating schedule. I’ve been battling with some slight pain in my upper back and have been seeing a chiropractor for the past month or so for spinal adjustments. Starting in the past day or so I’m now feeling this same pain in the OTHER side of my back so I don’t know what’s going on there. I took several weeks off from weight training but have continued with cardio training nearly every day. I just love staying active with my cardio routine and just can’t quite give that up. The break from the weights was good but I was eager to get back into it this week. Maybe it was too much this week - who knows - I’ll find out tomorrow from my chriropractor.
Other than that, things have been going well. I’ve been assisting my friend Jeff (also a buddy of mine on MySpace) in exploring career options aboard ships with Holland America Line and he’s becoming increasingly more excited about it. The three of us (Timothy, Jeff, and I) went to watch the crew races this past Saturday on Greenlake and then we took Jeff aboard the Westerdam this past Sunday. Jeff has been so excited about getting out on the ships to start a new career. I am pleased to report that he was offered a contract this evening and Jeff sounded very excited on the phone tonight. I am just so happy for him and most definitely am living vicariously through him in remembering how happy I was to start working aboard ship. We’ll be having a celebratory dinner and drink (or two, maybe - hehe) tomorrow night at Palermo on 15th and perhaps out a bit after that. I am just so excited for him!
Timothy and I are just under two months away from leaving for New Zealand and Timothy is getting very excited about that. I, on the other hand, have not yet gotten around to reading up on the country and learning about the insane things that we have ahead of us. All I know is that he has some tours planned where we’ll be sky diving and submerging into sink holes - among other things. So I’ll be increasing my life insurance coverage before I leave for sure . . .
That is about all for now. I will be traveling to Toronto, Canada in a couple of weeks on business and I hope to update prior to then.
