I remember watching this film and wondering why there was no slash fandom for it. Maybe it was the wrong time for it online but yeah, I agree with your conclusions. The TV series White Collar is basically a serialized version of Catch Me only with an added wife who does very little.

I considered mentioning White Collar, because I figured that fans of Peter/Neil might also like Carl/Frank, but finally decided against it. I didn't want to make it seem like I was saying the characters are essentially the same.

There's still a lot of mystery around Neil's past, but personality-wise, he seems different from Frank. I don't get as much of the "confidant playboy masking a lonley child" vibe from him; plus, I see Frank being more serious and dedicated to his job after being released, where as Neil is still very playful.

I meant they were similar in general terms really. It would be interesting to see a crossover fic.

Oh, lovely write up. You hit all the points and glad to see someone looking deeper into this. I'd thought of it a bit when I first saw the movie but never followed up. This was just such a perfect manifesto!

Ah~ I remember this movie! I think I was too young when I watched this in theaters to ship the pairing...I don't think I even knew ships were anything other than large boats. lol xD But now that I've read this manifesto I can totally see it! 8D

Oh man, I love this movie. I never imagined there'd be a manifesto for it, though.
