I read JtHM a few years ago, loved it, and kind of put it aside and didn't look for the fanworks... gah, I was missing out. I'm now on the tenth chapter of Song Without a Name, and I'm looking forward to reading the other fics you've recommended here, too.
I've always thought that there was some sort of missed opportunity between Johnny and Edgar when I was reading the comic, though I was thinking more along the lines of friendship... I'm surprised that I didn't even contemplate them as a couple until reading this manifesto, considering I was a slash maniac at the time, lol.
I guess can't fault myself for not falling in love with them at first read since, well, their interaction ends in gory death, but I'm glad that I can think about it in that way now. They had potential. In a better time and place, they could have been important to each other.
I guess that's what fic is for, though, right?

I was also sorely disappointed when Edgar didn't play a role in Johnny's time in Heaven. It was still really entertaining, but kind of like "...aw, really?" when it came time for Johnny to leave. Edgar was really interesting, and I wanted to see what he thought of Heaven after death.
